The name of the great scientist and Nobel Prize laureate Ilya Mechnikov can be found on the map of Odesa. There is a street and a square named after him, and, most importantly, Odesa National University bears his name. These days, a collection of articles dedicated to his life and work in Odesa has been published. It immediately received high praise from the jury of the traditional exhibition and forum “Ukrainian Book in Odesa Region”.
The journalist Felix Kokhricht spoke with members of the authors’ group — Professors Inna Holubovych and Vadym Khmarskyi, and Viacheslav Kuznetsov, Director of the Odesa National University History Museum. The conversation focused on remarkable chapters of I. Mechnikov’s scientific and personal life in Odesa, the high standards and traditions he established at the university, as well as the current work of its academic staff and students.
