Jazz Club
The Mykola Holoshchapov Jazz Club at the World Club of Odesans was founded in late December 2022.
The club’s main focus is the study of the origins and gradual development of jazz in Odesa, the work of individual musicians and ensembles, the history of jazz festivals, concerts and jazz education, as well as creative meetings with contemporary jazz performers and guests of the Odesa music scene and jam sessions.
The club hosts salon-style evenings dedicated to milestone anniversaries of musicians from the world and Odesa jazz scenes, screenings of excerpts from films about jazz, photography exhibitions, poster exhibitions, and presentations of books on jazz theory and history. Special attention is devoted to meetings with young musicians, students of jazz educational institutions in Odesa and other cities of Ukraine, as well as young performers from schools across the city and region.
The club is headed by pianist and composer Oleksii Petukhov, artistic director of the Odesa Big Band and one of Ukraine’s leading jazz pianists, and musicologist Olena Shevchenko, better known by her stage name Lady Jazz. She has hosted jazz concerts and festivals in Odesa for many years and is the creator and host of the radio programme “Jazz Club”.
