15th Branch of the Worldwide Club of Odesites

The geography of the Worldwide Club of Odesites continues to expand, and despite the quarantine, our activities have remained just as active as before. During the quarantine, we communicated even more frequently online with our friends in India, exchanging news and ideas. Later, the Club’s Presidential Council also met online and decided to support the establishment of another branch.

The idea of creating an association of Odesites in India’s capital first emerged in late 2018 thanks to Nadiya Polnaryova, an Odessite who has lived in Delhi since 2000. She moved there with her husband, an Indian citizen who graduated from the Odesa Medical Institute. In Delhi, Nadiya, who took the surname Kesari, gave birth to her daughter Nisha, who is now studying biomedical sciences at the University of Delhi. Many friends of the Kesari family and of her husband also live in Delhi. They studied in Odesa at various educational institutions, together with their spouses. They often gather to reminisce about the years they spent in Odesa. The city remains very dear to them, as it holds many of their happiest memories.

The Delhi group actively followed the Worldwide Club of Odesites and its projects, regularly reading our website and occasionally receiving the newspaper Worldwide Odesa News. Members of the group also proposed cooperation within the projects “Odesa Scientists in the Pages of Indian Journals” and with the Odesa Roerich House Museum.

At the end of 2018, a general meeting decided to name the community “Native Harbor.” Its governing and administrative bodies were also elected.

In March 2020, representatives of the Delhi community appealed to the Presidential Council of the Worldwide Club of Odesites with a request to recognize “Native Harbor” as an official branch of the Club.

Today, the “Native Harbor” Club, alongside other branches in different cities and countries, is a full-fledged branch of the Worldwide Club of Odesites.

The branch officially celebrates its birthday on November 20, 2018—the day the decision to establish the association was made.
