The Prague branch of the Worldwide Club of Odesites, named “Lanzheron”, was established on October 25, 2007. Those who hold Odesa dear gathered in a cozy café in Prague to found the branch.

The first meeting of the Lanzheron Club took place in a Prague café on March 8, 2008.

The initiator of this meeting, as well as all those that followed, was Olena Chepelkova, a native of Odesa and a graduate of the Odesa Civil Engineering Institute. She worked at the Main Architectural and Urban Planning Department of Odesa. She was unanimously elected Chairperson of the Lanzheron Club.

At the next Club meeting, held on March 8, 2008, members discussed membership card designs created by club member and designer Svetlana Fakhreyeva and selected the final version. Olena Chepelkova also spoke about her visit to the Worldwide Club of Odesites and her participation in the round-table meeting of Odesa diaspora representatives from different countries at the Most-Odesa Information Agency (September 2009).

The Club Charter was officially adopted.

The organizers consider the Club’s main purpose to be communication—with fellow Odesites and members of other Odessite clubs around the world.

The Club’s plans include:

  • Helping compatriots who have moved for work or permanent residence adapt to life in the Czech Republic;
  • Organizing themed gatherings, including karaoke nights, dance evenings, presentations, and other events;
  • Establishing a Museum of the City of Odesa;
  • Sharing homemade dishes at Club meetings and creating a signature Club dish;
  • Encouraging Odesites and everyone who has visited Odesa to share their memories with Club members and actively involve Czech friends in the Club’s activities.
